ROME — Italian satellite channels, led by Fox Intl. Channels Italy, claimed 12 of the 28 prizes awarded at the ninth annual Hot Bird TV Awards, taking home top honors in such categories as news, music, fiction and children’s programming.
Fox Italy channels won four Hot Bird awards, including Fox Crime and Cult in the fiction category; the History Channel in factual category and Next HD for the new high-definition category.
Other Italian winners included MTV Brand New for the music category and Rai Sat Ragazzi for children.
Britain’s BBC World and Rai News 24 swept the news category while Germany’s Kinowelt TV took top prize in cinema. Russia’s RTVI Channel won top honors in the national window category, with special mention going to Hungary’s Duna Televizio.
This year’s Hot Bird TV Awards, organized by Eutelsat; Eurovisioni and SAT Expo, took place in Venice.
Started in 1997, the Hot Bird Awards are selected by two juries comprised of journalists and media professionals. The juries considered more than 100 channels from 15 countries.
