Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

Fox blew away the competition as usual on Tuesday with “American Idol” and “House,” while CBS dramas “NCIS” and “The Unit” ended their seasons with respectable second-place finishes.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “American Idol” (10.7 rating/29 share among adults 18-49, 27.7 million viewers overall) beat the other five broadcast nets combined in the 8 o’clock hour, and “House” (9.1/22 in 18-49, 22.5 million viewers overall) dominated at 9, more than doubling its closest pursuer in demos.

At CBS, the season ender of “NCIS” (3.8/10 in 18-49, 16.4 million viewers overall) was up about 10% vs. last year’s finale. Net remained a solid second the rest of the night with “The Unit” at 9 (4.2/10 in 18-49, 14.1 million viewers overall) and a special additional firstrun seg of the military drama at 10 (4.2/11 in 18-49, 12.8 million viewers overall).

NBC’s “Scrubs” was on the rise for its one-hour season finale (3.2/8 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall), leading in to the slot-leading “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (5.2/13 in 18-49, 12.9 million viewers overall). And ABC didn’t do much with the two-hour season finale of “Boston Legal” (2.6/6 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 9.9/25; CBS, 4.1/10; NBC, 3.3/9; ABC, 2.2/6; UPN, 0.8/2; WB, 0.7/2.

In total viewers: Fox, 25.1 million; CBS, 14.4 million; NBC, 7.8 million; ABC, 7.6 million; UPN, 1.7 million; WB, 1.6 million.
