Eye’s ‘Miami’ tops Monday

CBS drama “CSI: Miami” ruled as the top-rated program on the opening Monday of the May sweep, a night that also saw a strong season finale for ABC’s “Supernanny.”

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “CSI: Miami” (6 rating/15 share in adults 18-49, 18.7 million viewers overall) easily bested timeslot drama rivals “Medium” on NBC (3.6/9 in 18-49, 10 million viewers overall) and “What About Brian” on ABC (2.8/7 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall).

The Eye also was also either first or second in key categories at 9 with “Two and a Half Men” (4.4/11 in 18-49, 14.6 million viewers overall), while 9:30 laffer “Old Christine” (3.7/9 in 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall) retained about 84% of its lead-in. CBS took the night in adults 25-54, key female demos and total viewers.

Fox’s drama thrillers “Prison Break” (3.6/10 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) and “24” (5.2/12 in 18-49, 13 million viewers overall) combined to lift the net to No. 1 for the night in 18-49 and key male demos.

NBC was paced by a slot-leading “Deal or No Deal” at 8 (3.9/11 in 18-49, 14 million viewers overall) although the quizzer was below its recent average. “The Apprentice 5” (3.7/9 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) fell back to fourth for the 9 o’clock hour among adults 18-49, as ABC’s season ender of “Supernanny” moved up to second (4.2/10 in 18-49, 10.3 million viewers overall).

At the WB, “7th Heaven” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall) edged up prior to next week’s finale.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 4.4/11; CBS, 4.2/11; NBC, 3.7/9; ABC, 3.4/9; WB, 1.8/5; UPN, 1.2/3.

In total viewers: CBS, 13.2 million; NBC, 11.2 million; Fox, 10.7 million; ABC, 8.3 million; WB, 4.7 million; UPN, 2.8 million.
