BEIJING — Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television has banned reports about celebrities’ private lives as part of a campaign against onscreen vulgarity.

The Beijing Legal Evening News said CCTV has been running seminars this month involving different departments to take a close look at low-brow programs.

CCTV will stick to its aim of “spreading advanced culture” and actively advocating mainstream values in line with the times. The particular focus of the clampdown on vulgarity will be entertainment skeins.

In October, the Propaganda Ministry issued a statement saying Chinese pics have too much swearing, focus too much on divorce and love affairs and generally are not good for the nation’s moral health.
