BUENOS AIRES — Buena Vista Intl. Television Latin America and Argentine producer Pol-ka Prods. are in pre-production on a talent contest to find the stars for an Argentine version of the Emmy-winning Disney Channel telepic “High School Musical.”
The weekly contest will air next year on the country’s second-ranked broadcaster, Artear-Canal 13, an Artear spokeswoman said. Disney’s Buena Vista office in Buenos Aires did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Buena Vista and Pol-ka are considering replicating the project in Brazil and Mexico.Deal would be the second of this sort between the companies after that for “Amas de casa desesperadas,” an Argentine version of “Desperate Housewives” that’s airing weekly to strong numbers on Artear. They plan to do versions of “Housewives” next for Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador, produced in Buenos Aires but headlined by stars from the respective countries.
Sales of the “Musical” soundtrack have been at No. 1 since August in Argentina and other Latin American markets.
