REEL WISDOM: Event, which hosted a team of teen femme filmmakers and marked the preem of their self-produced PSA and two-minute film short, geared the Q&A to getting into the industry. Spheeris advised the mini-auteurs to join guilds: “Pay or play. I want to tell you young girls, before you rock the boat, make sure they can’t get rid of you.”

TV TRUTH: Though she touted the merits of working as a woman in TV, Gittelsohn noted the industry is often retro-minded. “(Just) lately, they have decided they don’t need to have a man direct a sitcom about a working mother,” she said.
