HOLLYWOOD — At Warner Independent’s Dec. 13 preem of “The Painted Veil,” helmer John Curran acknowledged the difficulties of filming the co-production in China, Australia and the U.K.

“It started as a form of chaos,” he said of lensing in China, “and at the end we had a pretty good communication with the crew.”

At the Cabana after-party topliner Edward Norton said diplomatically, “Whatever was difficult about China was more than made up by the quality of the crew.”

“China was fantastic,” said co-star Toby Jones enthusiastically, adding he was not aware of any problems. “Maybe they’ve got a file on me, but I’m not aware of it.”
