Spa: Ole Henriksen Face/Body
8622 A West Sunset Boulevard
LA CA 90069
Vibe: Danish modern meets Balinese utopia at this hidden spa, tucked away in Sunset Plaza. There’s a locker for men and women, so you can stow your clothes and freshen up after your treatment. There’s nothing worse than having to leave a spa with greasy, post-massage hair. A softly lit, intimate lounge is perfect for prolonging the relaxation before and after each treatment.
Specialty: African Red Tea Body Cocktail ($155; 90 minutes). When 54-year-old Danish-born Ole–notice his wrinkle-free visage–discovered that the African red tea he was serving in his spa had healing properties, he created this treatment. The experience starts with a brown sugar scrub and rinse. Then, fresh orange juice is drizzled on your body, followed by yogurt and African red tea leaves. Yes, it’s all very 9 1/2 Weeks — sans Mickey Rourke, of course! Later, orange slices are applied and you’re enveloped in a warm body wrap. A scalp massage seals the deal. Another option? The new Inner Peace Hypnotic Tranquility sessions with hydrotherapy soak (from $150 to $250) combine a visit to a psychic with a rub down from a masseuse-a perfect gift for the friend with high stress levels.
Take home: The African Red Tea regimen (starting at $28 for mist; $65 for creme) hydrates, nourishes and contains antioxidants that boost the skin’s immune system. Ole’s roll-on Blemish Attack ($22) is potent enough to quash zits without irritating surrounding skin. To order products, go to olehenriksen.com.
Scoop: Renee Zellweger prepares for award show season at this spa, by indulging in massages and facials. Sandra Oh swears by the decongesting facials, too.
Bonus: Ole Henriksen will offer a free Hydrotherapy Soak in one of their luxe tubs to Stylephile readers who purchase a body treatment through January 1. Just mention TheStylephile.com when you book an appointment.
