Cuatro buys Japanese toon ‘Pretty Cure’

High school supergirl action thriller to air mornings

BARCELONA — New Spanish broadcaster Cuatro has acquired 96 episodes of anime-style toon skein “Pretty Cure,” produced by Japan’s Toei Animation.

The high school supergirl action thriller will air at a peak viewing time for children and adolescents on Cuatro’s morning schedule.

The Cuatro deal was struck by Spain’s Elastic Rights, which had acquired rights to the series for Spain.

Set up in September 2001 by Ignacio Orive, Madrid-based Elastic is a management company specializing in the sales and licensing of multimedia brands and content targeting children, youth and family audiences in Spain, Portugal and Italy.

In separate deals, Elastic Rights has also licensed the Japanese skein to pay TV network Jetix Spain where it will be broadcast from Oct. 14 on early evening weekday Jetix Max block.

Spanish Digital Terrestrial Television channel Clan TVE, part of pubcaster RTVE’s DTT bouquet, has also taken DTT rights to Spain on this series.
