Jedd Gold has been tapped managing director of marketing for Variety, charged with enhancing the value of the Variety brand and expanding it into new arenas.

His responsibilities will include management of events, promotions, publicity, creative services, barters and sponsorships. In addition, he will work with the online group to increase the Internet presence of Variety.com, VarietyCareers.com and TheStylephile.com.

Most recently, Gold was VP of marketing and promotions for DIC Entertainment. There he oversaw the launch and marketing of many kids brands, including Strawberry Shortcake, a brand that has grossed more than $1 billion in retail sales since its relaunch in 2003.

Gold, who replaces Madelyn Hammond, will report to Rose Einstein, senior VP and publishing director.
