Wilmer Valderrama has hired former MTV exec Danny Villa to run his production company, WV Enterprises, which produces music net’s comedy hit “Yo Momma.”
Villa, most recently director of talent and series development at MTV, joins WVE after working on the development and production of “Yo Momma.”
Pair met on the set of “That ’70s Show,” and Valderrama says exec will be key as WVE grows its live-action and animated TV biz focused on youth-oriented content. Villa also will shepherd the shingle’s expansion into feature production; WVE just set up “PartyBuddys,” based on a real-life New York nightclub service, at Universal (Daily Variety, Aug. 17).
Villa helped develop some of MTV’s biggest reality hits, including “The Osbournes,” “Newlyweds” and “Punk’d.”
Production on 20 new episodes of “Yo Momma” will begin in January for a premiere next summer. Third installment will be set in Atlanta; first two, separately, had taken place in Los Angeles and New York.
Second season, which premiered Monday, continues to pit amateur comedians against each other in a head-to-head smack-talk battle.
Before MTV, Villa worked in casting and as a segment producer at USA Network.
