Tolkin gesture for HBO

Cable network signs writer to develop, supervise projects

HBO has signed Michael Tolkin to an exclusive overall deal calling for the novelist-screenwriter to develop and supervise series projects.

Under the yearlong pact, Tolkin, best known for writing book “The Player” and its feature adaptation for helmer Robert Altman, will exec produce at least two potential skeins for the paybox.

Furthest along is “Loaded,” a one-hour set in a gun store that has been owned and operated by several generations of the same family.

If greenlit to series, project would be the first producing gig for Tolkin on the small screen.

Jeff Timon is writing the pilot and will co-exec produce. Management 360’s Alex Hertzberg and Justin Silvera are also attached to produce.

Tolkin is writing and directing an installment of ABC’s “Masters of Sci-Fi” anthology series and recently penned the novel “Return of the Player,” a sequel to the original “Player” tome.

He also wrote the screenplays for “Mission: Impossible 2,” “Changing Lanes” “and “Deep Impact.”

Tolkin and Timon are repped by WMA.
