TLC makes time for ‘Kids’

Series calling attention to childhood obesity epidemic

Cable channel TLC is kicking off a new parenting programming block with an anti-obesity reality skein, “Honey, We’re Killing the Kids!”

Show follows the health problems of 13 families across the U.S. and focuses particularly on the children, all of whom are addicted to junk food, sleep too much and engage in little exercise.

Each set of parents is provided with a computer-generated simulation of what their kids will look like if they continue their unhealthy lifestyles. Under the rigorous guidance of a nutrition expert, they are then given three weeks to transform their dietary habits, before facing the computer simulation again to view the potential difference.

Series intends to act as a wake-up call to the childhood obesity epidemic, and highlights how it can lead to dysfunctional emotional lives, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

The weekly, 13-part skein will preem April 10 and is produced by BBC Prods. USA, with Julie Rose McCully exec producing for TLC.
