MTV Networks’ entertainment group — Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land — has brought on an exec to oversee digital strategy.
Erik Flannigan, formerly VP of programming for AOL’s entertainment properties, has been tapped for the job at MTV’s cable nets overseen by Doug Herzog. He joined AOL from Disney just a year ago.
Flannigan is expected to oversee the three nets’ online presences, as well as AtomFilms, a video Web site that’s part of Atom Entertainment, which Viacom bought in August for $200 million.
Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land all run broadband networks featuring TV clips and original shorts. Atom primarily features editorially programmed short films, rather than viral video clips, and is being integrated with the entertainment group.
Flannigan has been replaced at AOL by company vet Mike Rich.
