Lifetime taps exec

Cottone leaves Peacock for veep stripes at femme net

Lifetime has named former NBC U Television Studio cable exec Lucia Cottone VP of series development and current programming.

Cottone, who will report to senior VP of original programming Maria Grasso, will be charged with mining scripted series and overseeing Lifetime’s current slate of dramas.

She’ll first spearhead femme-powered police procedural “Angela’s Eyes,” the first drama ordered by entertainment chief Susanne Daniels (Daily Variety, Jan. 11). From Dan McDermott, Scott Shepherd and “Crash” exec producers Tom Nunan and Cathy Schulman, series bows this summer.

“Lucia’s diverse background, which includes positions at both studios and networks, makes her an ideal choice for this critical position,” Grasso said. “She is very well respected and highly regarded in the industry for her passion and taste.”

Cottone rounds out a development team that includes Allison Wallach, VP of original programming, and Brian Wright, manager of scripted series programming.

Exec last served as a director of cable programming for NUTS, where she oversaw USA’s “Monk” and Sci Fi Channel’s upcoming “Eureka.” Before that she consulted on programming and development for Grupo Prisa Intl. and Up-Mobile. She also held exec positions at Telemundo, UPN and Rysher Entertainment.
