David Ellender, managing director of Fremantle Intl. Distribution, has been appointed CEO of FremantleMedia Enterprises and joins the operating board.
Appointment was made as the Mip TV trade show in Cannes wound down Thursday. Ellender, a fixture on the Croisette for 20 years, will now oversee FID and FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide — the commercial divisions that report to FremantleMedia Enterprises.
Ellender and Gary Carter, chief creative officer of New Platforms and formerly acting chief exec of FLW, will both report to FremantleMedia CEO Tony Cohen.
FID has sales offices worldwide and licenses more than 19,000 hours of programming, including the “American Idol,” “The Apprentice,” “Project Runway” and “Jamie Oliver” series. It also handles DVD exploitation through Fremantle Home Entertainment.
