Though neither performer nor honoree, the appearance of Whitney Houston turned heads at Saturday’s Carousel of Hope gala.
“She’s my date,” said honoree Clive Davis, clearing doubts as to whether the pop diva would sing. “We’re going into the studio in December and try to make a killer album.”
Black-tie affair began with remarks from emcee Jay Leno and Sidney Poitier, who intro’d gala founder and chair Barbara Davis. Evening raised more than $4 million for children’s diabetes care and research.
Produced by George Schlatter with music by David Foster, the program saw perfs from Barry Manilow and Usher —who did the show-stopping “Razzle Dazzle” routine from “Chicago” accompanied by a dozen dancers from the Broadway production — among others.
Manilow and Sharon Stone made the award presentations to Davis and Quincy Jones, respectively.
