Current TV has hired Madeleine Smithberg, co-creator and exec producer of “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” as creative consultant and executive producer.
She will work with Current’s creative team to conceive, develop and exec produce a new franchise for the network. She’ll also provide creative input and consultation on the net’s programming.
Smithberg has received Peabody and Emmy awards for her work on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Her credits include “The Jon Stewart Show” and “Steve Harvey’s Big Time”; she also spent six years as a talent coordinator and producer for NBC’s “Late Night With David Letterman.” Smithberg began her career as a field producer for RAI in Italy.
She will report to David Neuman, Current’s programming prexy.
Current TV, which launched Aug. 1, is the first national network created for an 18- to 34-year-old audience. Current has carriage on Comcast, DirecTV and Time Warner Cable.
