WHAT: Hollywood Humane Society’s 20th annual Genesis Awards
WHERE: L.A.’s BevHilton on Saturday
PRIZE PITCH: Joe Mantegna sang the praises of his co-presenter, Tippi Hedren, a fervent, longtime supporter of animal rights. “Being up here with Tippi is like being at the Baseball Hall of Fame with Joe DiMaggio,” he said.
RABBIT-ROUSER: For addressing abuse against furry friends, DreamWorks’ “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” picked up the nod for animated feature. Accepting the award from the sisters Deschanel (Emily and Zooey), key animator Doug Calder joked, “This feels slightly odd accepting on behalf of a bunch of tiny plasticine bunnies, but we are proud of them.”
