Cedric the Entertainer is looking to get back into the small-screen business, signing a talent holding deal with ABC and sibling studio Touchstone.
As part of the pact, Cedric is already developing a half-hour laffer at the Alphabet net to be penned and exec produced by “Bernie Mac” creator Larry Wilmore. Project is set up at Warner Bros. TV, which would be assigned Cedric’s deal if a pilot is picked up.
Laffer would star Cedric as a man who juggles his home life as the single father of a teenage girl with his work life as security chief at LAX.
The comedian most recently headlined the HBO standup special “Cedric the Entertainer: Taking You Higher.” He last regularly starred in the Fox series “Cedric the Entertainer Presents,” which aired during the 2002-03 season. Cedric also starred in the WB’s “The Steve Harvey Show.”
Thesp’s feature credits include the two “Barbershop” films, “Be Cool” and “The Honeymooners.”Cedric next will star opposite Lucy Liu in New Line feature “The Cleaner.”
Wilmore has been busy of late both in front of and behind the camera. The scribe has become a frequent on-air contributor to “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” and guested on “The Office,” where he also serves as a consulting producer.
Elsewhere, Wilmore is developing a politically themed script at Fox. Last spring, he starred in a pilot for CBS.
