‘Blade’ doesn’t cut it

Horror drama killed by Spike

Spike TV has driven a stake into “Blade.”

Viacom cabler will not renew the vampire actioner for a second season, ending its first attempt at a one-hour drama.

Despite a promising start, “Blade” failed to hold an audience over its 12-episode run. Series bowed June 28 to a robust 2.5 million viewers (1.3 rating/4 share in adults 18-49), making it the most-watched original series premiere in Spike history.

But ratings took a nosedive in succeeding weeks. Finale, which aired Sept. 13, drew just 896,000 viewers (0.5/1, 18-49).

Moving to fill the vacancy, Spike recently ordered James DeMonaco’s “The Kill Pit” to series. Show stars John Leguizamo as the leader of a group of war vets-turned-bank robbers.

“Blade” toplined Kirk Sticky Jones as the half-vampire warrior trying to save the human race from a demonic underworld. David Goyer, David Simkins, Avi Arad, Jim Rosenthal and Jon Kroll executive produced.

“We were happy with ‘Blade’ creatively,” a Spike rep said. “However, we were disappointed with audience turnout.”
