Aresu ankles Azteca

World Brief

After six years at Mexico’s No. 2 net TV Azteca, producer Giorgio Aresu has ankled following a spat over control of the web’s singing contest shows.

Aresu, who produced the first four seasons of “La Academia” and who had been producing “La Academia USA,” airing on U.S. net Azteca America, quit after a former member of his production team, Eva Borja, was placed in charge of song contest show “Desafio de las estrellas.”

TV Azteca’s U.S. production was handed over this month to Argentinean producer Julio De Rose.

“La Academia” has been TV Azteca’s biggest hit so far over its dominant rival Televisa since the net launched 13 years ago.
