ABC News ups PR guru

Schneider upped to senior veep

Jeffrey Schneider, the PR exec who helped ABC News through two anchor transitions, the death of Peter Jennings and the injury to Bob Woodruff, has been promoted to senior VP.

He will continue to report to Kevin Brockman, senior veep of communications for Disney-ABC Television Group, while working closely with ABC News prexy David Westin.

Schneider is the primary spokesman for all ABC News properties, including “World News Tonight,” “Nightline,” “20/20” and “Good Morning America.”

Several of those shows have undergone jarring and unexpected change over the past year. “WNT” has seen two anchor changes due to the death of Jennings and injuries sustained by Woodruff in Iraq.

“GMA” lost co-anchor Charlie Gibson to the evening newscast and is searching for a new exec producer. Longtime “Nightline” host Ted Koppel stepped down late last year.

“Jeffrey has proven his abilities time and time again through some very difficult and challenging situations,” Brockman said.

Schneider joined ABC News as a vice president in 2000. Before joining the network, he was director of public relations at the William Morris Agency.
