Richard Blackstone, chairman-CEO of Warner Music Group’s publishing arm, will segue into the role of senior adviser to Edgar Bronfman Jr.

Blackstone will focus on music publishing matters related to strategic acquisitions, international licensing and global expansion at Warner Music Group. He starts Jan. 3.

WMG exec veep-general counsel David H. Johnson will became interim head of Warner/Chappell. During the transition period, Paul Robinson, WMG senior veep and deputy general counsel will serve as acting general counsel. Company will conduct a search for Blackstone’s permanent successor.

“In the time that he’s been here, Richard has laid the groundwork for renewed growth at Warner/Chappell, implementing the unit’s restructuring program, making strategic investments to drive long-term growth, signing artists and forming innovative new publishing ventures,” Bronfman said.

Prior to joining WMG in 2005, Blackstone was president of Zomba Music Publishing. 

Warner/Chappell Music’s catalog includes “Happy Birthday to You,” “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Winter Wonderland” and the songs of Cole Porter, Dr. Dre, Eric Clapton, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
