James Calleri, the longtime casting director at Playwrights Horizons, has departed to form Calleri Casting and also joined creative producers Fran and Barry Weissler as a creative consultant.
Calleri will handle casting duties for the Weisslers’ current Broadway offerings (“Chicago”) as well as their developing projects, such as a Moises Kaufman-helmed production of Mark Schultz’s play “A Brief History of Helen of Troy, or Everything Will Be Different.”
Other legit-related projects include the ABC movie version of the Broadway revival of “A Raisin in the Sun” (which Calleri’s office also cast); “Prairie,” a tuner adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie” (with book by Beth Henley) set for New York Stage & Film this summer; and “Post Mortem,” the upcoming play by A.R. Gurney at the Flea.
Calleri’s office also works with Merchant Ivory Prods. on films such as James Ivory’s upcoming “City of Your Final Destination.”
At Playwrights Horizons, Alaine Alldaffer, Calleri’s former associate at the nonprofit, will replace him as casting director.
