‘Nightingale’ starts to sing

Redgrave's legiter preems in Blighty

NEW YORK — Lynn Redgrave’s one-woman show, “Nightingale,” preems at the New End Theater in London Tuesday.

Production, written and directed by Redgrave and starring Caroline John, is based on memories of Redgrave’s grandmother, Beatrice Kempson.

After its monthlong London run, show will make its U.S. bow for one night only, Feb. 17, at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. Redgrave will perform the piece and Joseph Hardy will helm.

Thesp directed “Nightingale” before starting rehearsals for “The Important of Being Earnest” at the Ahmanson, which also begins perfs Tuesday.

Redgrave previously penned “Shakespeare for my Father,” about her relationship with Michael Redgrave, and “The Mandrake Root,” based on mother Rachel Kempson.
