Snipes arrested for tax fraud

'Blade' star turns himself in to authorities

Actor Wesley Snipes was arrested in Florida Friday morning on tax fraud charges.

Turning himself in at the Orlando airport, Snipes was flying in from Namibia where he is filming Sheer Films’ “Gallowwalker,” directed by Andrew Goth. Joanne Reay and Michael Gebauer are producing.

After appearing in federal court following the arrest, Snipes planned to return to Africa, said Sheer Films rep Ian Thompson.

Snipes was charged in October with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid. The star of the “Blade” trilogy was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004.

If convicted, he faces up to 16 years in prison.
