Aboriginal stage and screen thesp Leah Purcell is 2006 recipient of the Australian Film Commission’s Bob Maza Fellowship, named after the trailblazing AFC commissioner, actor and activist.

Purcell’s “Box the Pony” and “Black Chicks Talking” played sellout Oz seasons and toured abroad, she has won plaudits for roles in “Lantana,” “Somersault,” “The Proposition” and “Jindabyne.”

The Bob Maza Fellowship is awarded to further an Indigenous actor’s professional development and career opportunities, and to support activities designed to raise the recipient’s profile internationally.
