JAKARTA — Indonesian company, PT Graha Layar Prima is to build three megaplexes, with more than 25 screens, in Jakarta, Bandung (West Java) and Surabaya (East Java).
Plexes will have architecture by Unick, a cinema design specialist from Glasgow, UK, while Meinhardt is providing mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, according to company director, David Hilman. The theaters will be programmed by Cathay Organization of Singapore, with the Bandung and Jakarta sites becoming operational this year.
Development is an aggressive move by Blitz to catch up with rival 21 Group, which has more than 300 screens throughout Indonesia. Blitz expects to be able to match 21’s pricing with tickets selling for $3-$10 each.
Move has been encouraged by the rise of the local film industry, which has seen some Indonesian titles sell 3 million tickets.
