Producer Ed Pressman has acquired rights to “The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan,” Robert Kanigel’s 1991 biography of Srinavasa Ramanujan Iyengar.

Pic is now one of two in the works on the legendary, self-taught math prodigy. Stephen Fry and Dev Benegal are teaming to pen and helm a similar project, which they see envision as an India-U.K. co-production.

Pressman and fellow producers Sofia Sondervan and Animus Films’ Jim Young have set a fall start date for their project and brought aboard writer-director Matthew Brown.

Pic follows the relationship between Iyengar, a young shop clerk, and Cambridge prof G.H. Hardy. When the young, unlikely math whiz contacted Hardy with his advanced theories, he was whisked to England and his destiny.

Pic will lense in India and the U.K.

Producers said the project will offer auds the accessibility of epics like “Gandhi” and “A Beautiful Mind.”

Brown’s upcoming writing credits include the indie pics “Four Funerals,” to be directed by Terry Loane, and “The Credenza,” a love story set in the court of Louis XVI that Animus is producing.
