‘Looking’ for action

'Next' up for reality skein winner, a speaking role in pic

The winner of “Looking for Stars,” the reality skein produced by Starz Entertainment Group, will be featured in Revolution Studios’ upcoming actioner “Next,” starring Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore.

The 14-episode miniseries (each seg is 10 minutes long, allowing for an easy transition to VOD and other platforms) follows nearly 200 contestants from their first auditions through to the appearance of the winner on the lot. First prize is promised to be a speaking role, although Revolution has included a disclaimer that it retains the right to cut.

Eight semifinalists will be culled from the original 200 and taken to Hollywood, where they will be judged by a panel including former MTV VJ Alan Hunter, helmer-thesp Melanie Mayron (“thirtysomething”) and Revolution exec Brad Sexton, who will cast the deciding vote.

“Looking for Stars” will preem on Starz on June 19.

“Next” is helmed by Lee Tamahori, and is skedded to be released next year by Columbia Pictures.
