Laurels draw Plympton

Tartakovsk, Deja to also receive Winsor McCay Award

Bill Plympton, Genndy Tartakovsky and Andreas Deja will receive this year’s Winsor McCay Award from the Intl. Animated Film Society.

Plympton’s credits include shorts “Your Face” and “25 Ways to Quit Smoking” as well as features “The Tune” and “Mutant Aliens.”

Tartakovsky has created or worked on TV series including “Dexter’s Lab,” “Samurai Jack,” “Star Wars Clone Wars” and “Powerpuff Girls.”

Deja’s creations include Roger in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” King Triton in “The Little Mermaid,” Jafar in “Aladdin,” Scar in “The Lion King” and the title character in “Hercules.”

The June Foray Award will go to Stephen Worth, who is working on the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive to compile a searchable digital database of images, sounds, movie files, biographical information and filmographies.

Certificates of merit will go to Bill Matthews, Michael Fallik, Marc Deckter and Eric Graf.

The Annie Awards recognize the year’s best animation in film, television, commercials, videogames and short subjects. They will be handed out Feb. 11 at the Alex Theater in Glendale, Calif.
