Louis J. Horvitz will direct the 79th Annual Academy Awards telecast, marking his 11th time.
In August, Horvitz won his fifth Emmy Award for directing the 78th Oscarcast. He has received eight Emmy nominations and won four for his Oscar telecast work.
Horvitz directed the Emmy Awards (his 12th time) and completed his 15th stint directing both “The Kennedy Center Honors” and “The American Film Institute Life Achievement Award” this year.
Also announced: Richard Edlund will receive the John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation. Edlund has won Oscars for his visual effects work on “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Return of the Jedi.” He has also earned six Academy Award nominations and three Scientific and Engineering Awards and won an Emmy for visual effects for “Battlestar Galactica.”
The Bonner medallion will be presented at the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner Feb. 10 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
Segments of the awards dinner will be featured on the ABC telecast of the 79th Academy Awards on Feb. 25.
