Funders set $8 mil for German pix

Projects include 'Yella,' 'Leroy,' 'Die anruferin'

COLOGNE — German public funders have earmarked $8 million to support several films, including projects from Christian Goerlitz, Vivian Naefe and Doris Doerrie. Goerlitz is preparing black comedy “Finnischer tango,” featuring Daniel Bruehl (“The Edukators”). Pic received $350,000 from Bremen’s Nordmedia fund, which also backed Christian Petzold’s “Yella,” psychodrama “Die anruferin” and young love tale “Leroy.”

Bavaria’s FFF Bayern awarded $850,000 each to military comedy “Ausbilder Schmidt”; historical mountaineer drama “Nordwand”; the fourth installment of kids’ pic “Die wilden kerle”; and the second installment of Naefe’s girls’ adventure pic “Die wilden huehner.”

It gave $500,000 each to tragicomedy “Heartbreakin’, ” about a run-down rock ‘n’ roller, and to “The Anarchist’s Wife,” a history drama set in the Spanish civil war, featuring Nina Hoss.

Also funded were Doerrie’s documentary about Californian Zen cook Edward Espe Brown, “How to Cook Your Life,” and Veit Helmer’s provincial backwater comedy “Absurdistan.”
