Francke goes to the Midlands

Regional agency has forged bond with Meadows

LONDON — Regional screen agency East Midlands Media has appointed former Edinburgh film fest artistic director Lizzie Francke as executive producer for film.

Francke joins from production company Little Bird, where she established their Ministry of Fear label. Her remit will be to identify feature film talent and entice them to forge partnerships with the regional financier.

EM Media is further bolstered by the addition of Paul Walsh as development exec. Walsh set up low-budget digital film project DigiCult in 2001 and has developed 40 shorts.

EM Media recently landed £6 million ($10.45 million) from European Regional Development Fund.

Alongside partners including FilmFour, the U.K. Film Council and BBC Films, the proactive EM Media has co-financed eight films since 2001.

Org’s profile has been elevated by its close association with maverick auteur and Midlands native Shane Meadows. Meadows’ latest project, skinhead pic “This Is England,” is co-financed by EM Media as was Meadows’ urban oater “Once Upon a Time in the Midlands” and revenge thriller “Dead Man’s Shoes.”
