‘Elegant’ takes short fest honors

Competish doled out $25,000 in prize money

TAIPEI — Helmer Dan Wiroth’s 29-minute fairy tale “Elegant” took top honors at the Golden Horse Film Festival’s seventh Intl. Digital Shorts Competition Tuesday, beating 43 shorts to nab a $6,000 purse.

Lin Jing-jie’s “Street Survivor” won for Taiwan short, Pramotz Sangsorn’s “TSU” for experimental, Shimon Shai’s “Road Marks” for fiction, co-directors Hsu Ya-Ting and Lin Wan-Yu’s “Life With Happiness” for documentary, Hikaru Yamakawa’s “Oh Hisse” for animated and, clocking in at just under two minutes, Nobuo Takahashi’s “Musashino Plateau” for short-short.

New Zealander Valerie Reid’s “Sand Dancer” took the audience award.

Golden Horse Film Festival continues to expand its digital shorts competition. A record 717 works were submitted this year.

Fest closes Nov. 24 with Japanese meller “Memories of Matsuko” and world preem of local director Wu Mi-sen’s “amour-LEGENDE.” Fest also hosts the annual Golden Horse Awards for Chinese-lingo pics on Nov. 25.
