EFP launches Euro stars

Thesps to be presented at Berlin fest

LONDON — European Film Promotion has unveiled the 21 emerging thesps who have been selected as 2006 Shooting Stars. The hopefuls will be showcased at a series of events taking place on the opening weekend of the Berlin Film Festival.

The list includes Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson (“Cold Light”), Ruth Negga (“Breakfast on Pluto”), Lucy Punch (“Festival”) and Mimoun Oaissa (“Schnitzel Paradise”). The up-and-coming talent were chosen by EFP member orgs.

The Shooting Stars program is entering its ninth edition and has helped launch a host of Euro talent in recent years. Previous young hopefuls to attend the Berlin fest as Shooting Stars include Daniel Bruhl, Ludivine Sagnier and Daniel Craig, who will play James Bond in upcoming “Casino Royale.”

The promotional scheme is supported by the MEDIA program of the European Union.
