SITGES, Spain — Eva Baro, the cofounder of ABS Production-Barcelona, has gone solo launching a Barcelona-based production company Aihposwati.
Under Baro and Antoni Sole, ABS was one of Catalonia’s most active upscale pic coproducers, taking equity in Tim Disney’s “Tempesta” and Peter Greenaway’s “The Tulse Luper Suitcases,” among other productions. Aihsposwati aims to produce from two to four pics per year, budgeted at Euros 2 million-Euros 4 million ($2.6 million-$5.2 million), Baro told Daily Variety. She will pursue international coproduction agreements, she added.
The new shingle has several projects in development. The first is skedded to shoot in the first half of 2007.
“I want to produce stories that make us dream, help us get through the day, and carry a message,” said Baro. She added that the company will be “more provocative and focus more on the digital world,” says Baro.
Companies artistic ambitions are seen in its name: Aihpos is Sophia, the Greek goddess of wisdom, spelled backwards; Watis is an entity that generates tsunamis.
