Joshua A. Berger has been promoted to president and managing director of Warner Bros. Entertainment in the U.K. and Ireland.

Berger, a 17-year Warner veteran, was exec VP and managing director of Warner U.K. — the first time the studio had appointed a single exec to head all its activities in one territory.

His promotion is a recognition of his success in fulfilling this new model of integrated management.

Berger will have greater responsibility for identifying and maximizing business opportunities in the U.K. that stretch across the various units he oversees.

These include theatrical production and distribution, TV production and distribution, homevideo, digital distribution, new media, interactive games and consumer products.

Based in London, Berger will continue to report through Richard Fox, exec VP international of Warner Bros., to chairman-CEO Barry Meyer and president and chief operating officer Alan Horn.

Berger oversaw the production and release of pics including the “Harry Potter” franchise and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” as well as expanding distribution of TV product, beefing up consumer products (notably the “Scooby-Doo” franchise) and increasing revenues.

He previously was senior VP/managing director of Warner Bros. Intl. TV Distribution for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He joined Warner in 1989 as a sales exec for WBITD in Paris, before moving to Spain and then to London.
