Stiller riding ‘Wave’

Thesp shingle going surfing

Ben Stiller and his Red Hour partner Stuart Cornfeld are producing the pitch “Big Wave” by Brent Forrester at Twentieth Century Fox. The directing team of Brendan and Emmett Malloy is helming.

Pic, based on an idea by Stiller, is a sports comedy about a big-wave surfer who, after being sidelined for years following a traumatic wipeout, decides to surf again in order to raise money to save a convalescent home for old surfers.

Red Hour is producing DreamWorks’ “Blades of Glory,” starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder. Most recently the shingle produced Fox’s “DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story,” starring Stiller.

The Malloy brothers directed the surf pic “Thicker Than Water.” They’ve also directed musicvids for the White Stripes, Metallica and the Black Eyed Peas. On the feature front, they’re directing “8 Track” at Fox, being produced by Gil Netter, and “Oceana” at Scott Free.

Forrester wrote New Line’s “Gazillionaire” and adapted “Arthur Spiderwick” for Paramount. His TV credits include “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill.”

Deal was packaged by UTA.
