Sony Pictures Releasing Intl. and Buena Vista Intl. have set up a joint venture to distribute their product in South Korea.
The companies will combine their staff into a single office, effective Nov. 30. Pics in the pipeline include “Casino Royale,” “Spider-Man 3,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Open Season,” “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Deja Vu,” “Meet the Robinsons” and “Ghost Rider.”
The two studios operate similar ventures in Mexico, Brazil, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Switzerland, India and Taiwan. From January, BVI will also distribute SPRI’s product in Norway, Finland and Denmark.
In 2005, BVI and SPRI accounted for 3.4% and 3% of the Korean theatrical market respectively.
