Sony BMG Film has tapped Argentinean helmer Alejandro Chomski to direct its first feature, “Reggaeton,” a co-production with Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Prods. Company is expected to announce his attachment this week.

Principal photography is slated to begin in New York and Puerto Rico in the spring. Albert Leon-penned project is likely to be the first of many Reggaeton-themed pics out of the gate, with projects based on the bilingual reggae, hip-hop hybrid in development at various other shingles.

Pic will be Chomski’s second. His feature debut, “Hoy y manana,” had its world preem at Cannes in 2003. Jennifer Lopez and Simon Fields of Nuyorican and Sony BMG Film’s Sofia Sondervan will produce “Reggaeton.”

Parent company Sony BMG Music Entertainment has a stable of Reggaeton artists including Voltio, Calle 13, Alexis y Fido, Zion y Lennox, John Eric and MRP, as well as a label deal with Puerto Rican imprint White Lion. It launched Sony BMG Film in August to develop, finance and produce music-related theatrical films.
