“The Queen” has tacitly received the royal seal of approval from Queen Elizabeth II herself, with members of the film’s creative team receiving an invitation to lunch at Buckingham Palace early next year.

Director Stephen Frears, writer Peter Morgan, producer Andy Harries and star Helen Mirren have been asked to set aside a date for the lunch by the Queen’s private secretary, Robin Janvrin. (Janvrin is played by Roger Allam in the film.)

It’s unclear whether Queen Elizabeth II will be present to meet the makers of the film, which Miramax is distributing Stateside.

“Queen” insiders understand the monarch has seen the film and that she was most definitely amused but admit they have no way of verifying that — unless she turns up to lunch.
