Moyle off to ‘Weirdsville’

Speedman, Bentley, Manning to star in dark comedy

Director Allan Moyle (“Pump Up the Volume”) will direct indie pic “Weirdsville” for Toronto-based production company Darius Films.

Scott Speedman, Wes Bentley and Taryn Manning will star in the dark comedy penned by Willem Wennekers.

Story revolves around a pair of hapless teen slackers who seek to bury the body of a friend who’s overdosed at an abandoned drive-in. There they stumble on a satanic cult performing a ritual.

Screen Media has boug ht up U.S. distribution rights, while ThinkFilm will distribute in Canada.

Producer is Darius founder Nicholas Tabarrok (“The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico”). Moyle and Tabarrok previously teamed on “Jailbait!,” an MTV movie.

Moyle directed Christian Slater starrer “Pump Up the Volume” for New Line. He also directed “The Gun in Betty Lou’s Handbag” for Touchstone and “Empire Records” for Warner Bros.

Tabarrok said Moyle remains a magnet for actors, and that there was “instant interest” in “Weirdsville” because of the director.

Speedman most recently starred in Screen Gems’ “Underworld: Evolution.” Bentley (“American Beauty”) stars in Sony’s upcoming “Ghost Rider,” while Manning (“Hustle & Flow”) stars in DEJ Prods.’ upcoming “The Breed.”
