Ang Lee is following up “Brokeback Mountain” with the Chinese-language pic “Lust, Caution,” which he’ll direct for Focus Features.
Wang Hui-Ling, who co-wrote Lee’s “Eat Drink Man Woman” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” is adapting “Lust, Caution” from a short story by late Chinese author Eileen Chang.
Production is skedded to begin in fall on the Shanghai-set WWII-era espionage thriller.
Focus holds worldwide rights to the film, excluding Asia. Focus Features Intl. is handing overseas sales.
Bill Kong (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”) will produce with Lee. Focus Features CEO James Schamus exec produces.
Schamus and Lee have collaborated on nine features, including “Brokeback Mountain,” on which Schamus was a producer.
Kong’s producing credits include Jet Li starrer “Fearless” and Zhang Yimou’s “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers.”
Focus’ upcoming releases include Woody Allen’s “Scoop,” Allen Coulter’s “Hollywoodland” and Shane Acker’s animated fantasy “9,” produced by Tim Burton.
