Jan De Bont is set to direct action thriller “Stopping Power” for Intermedia, Bill Block’s QED Intl. and German f/x house action concept, which are together producing and co-financing the pic.
Richard Shepard (“The Matador”) is revising the original script by Eric Red (“The Hitcher”). Lensing begins in Germany in September. QED will handle worldwide sales.
Story revolves around a test pilot in Berlin who is on vacation with his daughter and girlfriend when their RV is hijacked at a gas station — with the daughter inside.
Producers are Intermedia’s Scott Kroopf, Alison Haskovec and Ollie Madden, QED’s Block and Paul Hanson and action concept’s Hermann Joha, Achim Schmitz and Daniel Hetzer.
De Bont, who directed the “Speed” franchise and “Twister,” helmed “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.” He’s still planning to direct shark action-adventure “Meg” for New Line, but that pic won’t be ready by next year, as originally planned.
Most recently, Intermedia co-financed Sony family pic “RV,” which opened over the weekend. With Universal, Intermedia is co-producing Billy Ray’s “Breach,” set to be released next year.
Former agent and Artisan co-prexy Block launched his sales, financing and production company earlier this year. QED is based in BevHills.
