LONDON — HBO’s Hollywood docu in honor of Variety’s centenary, “Boffo! Tinsletown’s Bombs and Blockbusters,” will be sold by U.K. distributor Granada Intl. in all territories outside the U.S.
The 75-minute pic, which world preems at Cannes this month before bowing on HBO June 29, is exec produced by Variety’s editor-in-chief Peter Bart and prexy-publisher Charles C. Koones, with editor Timothy M. Gray as co-producer.
“Boffo!” an official selection at Cannes, where it will screen out of competition, includes exclusive industry interviews and clips from various hits and flops.
The docu is produced and directed by Bill Couturie (“Common Threads: Stories From the Quilt”).
The film was suggested by Bart’s book, “Boffo! How I Learned to Love the Blockbuster and Fear the Bomb,” which Miramax Books will publish in June.
