‘Eleanor’ indie finds famous faces, funding

Susan Sarandon and Helena Bonham Carter starrer “Eleanor & Colette” is one of a number of pics earmarked for coin by German funding body Filmstiftung NRW.

Helmed by Rolf Schuebel (“Blueprint”), pic is about a psychiatry patient suing her hospital

It is produced by U.S. shingle EC Prods., Hamburg-based Multimedia Film und Fernsehproduktion and Cologne-based MMC and will get $1 million from the funder.

The body distributed $6.5 million, of which the largest single amount, $1.1 million, went to Dominik Graf’s TV production “Das geluebde” (The Vow), an adaptation of the religious visions of a nun chronicled by 19th century writer Clemens Brentano.

Other theatrical projects backed were Ulla Wagner’s World War II love story “Die entdeckung der currywurst”; Andreas Kleinert’s “Freischwimmer”; Fatih Akin’s “On the Other Side of Life”; Sylke Enders’ “Mondkalb”; and Tony Loeser’s kid pic “Ein fall fur freunde”

In related news, the German-French Film Support Commission awarded $600,000 to kid pic “Jasper — A Journey to the End of the World” by Eckart Fingberg and Joern Radel.
