Andrew Niccol (“Lord of War”) will direct “Dali & I: The Surreal Story,” based on Stan Lauryssen’s autobiographical book, for Room 9 Entertainment.
Room 9, which originally acquired the project as a spec written by John Salvati, said Niccol is at work on a rewrite. Bio covers the life of Salvador Dali through the eyes of Lauryssen, an art dealer who knew Dali personally.
Room 9 CEO David Sacks will produce with Daniel Brunt and Michael R. Newman, who were recently promoted to partnership positions at the company and now serve as co-presidents.
Niccol’s credits include writing and directing “Gattaca” and “Simone.” He also wrote “The Truman Show,” for which he received an Academy Award nomination for original screenplay.
Sacks, Brunt and Newman recently produced “Thank You for Smoking.” Fox Searchlight released the critically acclaimed political satire based on Christopher Buckley’s bestselling novel after acquiring it at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival.
Niccol is represented by CAA and attorney John LaViolette. Room 9 is represented by attorney David J. Bloomfield.
