Coma pic stirring at Rogue

Garcia makes helming debut with thriller

Former Focus Features exec VP of production Amy Kaufman will produce an untitled thriller for alma mater Rogue Pictures that will mark the feature directorial debut of Victor Garcia.

Craig Gerber will pen the script.

Based on a pitch by Garcia, tale is about a girl who wakes up from a 15-year coma and finds herself in a haunted hospital ward.

Underground Films’ Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson are exec producing; William Lowery will co-produce.

Kaufman left Focus — parent of genre label Rogue — last year to form her own production shingle, the Gotham-based Primary Prods.

Garcia recently caught Hollywood’s attention with his Spanish-language short “El Ciclo,” which picked up several fest kudos. Gerber has written and directed two shorts, “Hang Time” and “The Endless Bread.”

Underground Films has a number of projects set up at various studios, including two at Fox 2000, “Venus Kincaid” and “Black Autumn,” which it is producing with Phoenix Pictures. Also with Phoenix it is co-producing “License to Wed” for Warner Bros, and it is exec producing the upcoming Tim Allen starrer “Zoom” for Revolution.
